A rare instance of Alan making a friend, from the start him and Dan seem destined to become soul mates. They bond over the Daily Mail ("arguably the best newspaper in the world"), their love of "Lexi" ("the Japanese Mercedes") and their choice of Lynx deodorant ("Voodoo? Java!"). The friendship goes rather sour later in the episode when Alan discovers that Dan and his wife are "sex people".
