FX may not have the budgets of HBO, but the cable channel should now be considered on equal footing quality wise, after a string of dramas including Fargo, Legion, The Americans, and American Crime Story.

Their new summer series could well join those ranks. Snowfall, which comes from Boyz n the Hood writer/director John Singleton, will take place in Los Angeles in 1983, and focuses on the first crack cocaine epidemic and its future impact.

It'll follow multiple characters, including a high school drug dealer, a CIA operative, and the daughter of a Mexican drug lord.
