This was a shocker of a death, with Ben having been presumed (by both fans who knew the comics and those who didn't) as being someone who was definitely safe, but this showed that the series was happy to go anywhere, and didn't really have set limits. Also, having spent a lot of the series building a degree of sympathy for Fisk, this turned things back round into him very much being the villain, as it was such a popular character he murdered, and really set the scene for the final endgame between him and Daredevil.
