15 Most Overrated TV Shows Of The Decade (So Far)

4. True Detective

The Show: The first season of True Detective follows Louisiana State Police homicide detectives Rustin "Rust" Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Martin "Marty" Hart (Woody Harrelson) as they attempt to capture a serial killer over a sprawling time-frame. Season two will feature an entirely different cast, including Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch, Kelly Reilly, and Rachel McAdams, telling a story set in California. Why It's Overrated: Before you flip your lid, there's no denying that the first season of True Detective was an absolute home run. The direction, writing, cinematography, music and acting were all first-rate, causing many to near-instantly label it one of the greatest shows of all time before the first season had even concluded. While there's a good chance it could live up to that claim in another year or two, let's not get carried away with ourselves yet. The switching up of casts each year is a considerable gamble, and it's possible that the next few seasons could fail to find the same success it enjoyed the first time around. As a standalone mini-series, season one is a certified classic, but whether the show as a whole has the same staying power remains to be seen. Best to wait and see before making overzealous claims...
