11. Jon Snow Chose Duty Over Family

With Winterfell burnt to the ground, Catelyn was initially intended to head North to The Wall after her husband Ned had helped her and two of the youngest Starks escape the destruction of their ancestral seat by Tyrion. She would have sought refuge with Jon Snow at The Wall, but because of his vow to cut off all family ties, Snow wouldn't have been able to offer sanctuary to his family, which would in turn have turned Bran against him. Was It A Good Change? Jon has already chosen duty over family - though he's also chosen other things ahead of duty - and it's in his flexibility that his greatest intrigue lies. He's an anti-hero because he doesn't quite toe the line, and his emotional response to the restrictions of his duty is particularly interesting; particularly since it leads to the infamous mutiny that is yet to come in the show.
