19 Things That Almost Completely Changed Game Of Thrones

1. Arya And Jon Should Have Fallen In Love

Clearly George RR Martin has a thing for really, really close families. In his original outline, half-brother and sister Jon Snow and Arya Stark (presumably older than she ended up being) were to fall in love - despite knowing full well that they're supposed to be related. Apparently Jaime and Cersei's incestuous affair wasn't intended to happen, but instead would have been transposed onto these two forbidden love-birds. It would all have been a bit Star Wars-like, particularly when the issue of Jon Snow's true parentage is revealed in the final book. Whether it really is Darth Vader or not remains to be seen. Was It A Good Change? The bond between Jon and Arya did still exist in part, but thankfully without any sexiness, which would have compromised something in Arya's development (even if it made Jon's decision to join the Night's Watch more intriguing). Plus, the decision to have Cersei and Jaime as the incestuous lovers made the Lannister lineage all the more interesting, and made Cersei (though curiously not so much her brother) seem all the more monstrous. Which of these changes are you most happy didn't happen? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
