To that point, when Vince Gilligan and co. decided to write a storyline in which Hank would be promoted to the volatile El Paso office of the D.E.A., ultimately leading to an informant - Tortuga - being captured, butchered and killed, it would've been too easy and boring to have him simply shot and tossed in a river. No, being Breaking Bad, Tortuga's death was unveiled in a far more horrifying way, with his severed head spiked into a tortoise shell bearing the message: Hola DEA. It then subsequently exploded, killing several agents. Breaking Bad, everybody.
19. Skyler's Pool Walk
In what was perhaps the first foreshadowing of Walter's downfall that wasn't far around the corner, this visually stunning scene from guest director Rian Johnson has become one of the series' high spots. Skyler, so depressed and harrowed by the guilt of being an accomplice to Walter's meth empire and the harbinger of crippling upset for so long, releases all attempts to control her life by literally walking underwater during a dinner party at the White House. Ghostly, surreal and literally breathtaking, the scene has become Skyler's hallmark moment and won her the Emmy in 2013.
