At a certain point in this show's tenure on television, someone finally just had to start saying, "Why the hell not?" One of the coolest things about Buffy is that despite the fact that it's a horror show about a teenage vampire slayer, it manages to achieve great tonal variety amongst its episodes. Some are heartbreaking, some are terrifying, and then some...well, some are like Superstar. Basically what happens here is that peripheral character Jonathan somehow works some voodoo that makes him pretty much the coolest guy in the universe. He lives in Sunnydale fighting evil (that is, when he's not busy starring in The Matrix and playing in the NBA), and everyone is seriously infatuated with him. The attention to detail in this episode is beyond impressive: there are little background jokes about how important Jonathan is that you'll notice upon repeated viewings, and even the opening credits have been changed to reflect his new status in the Buffyverse.
