Dont turn your back. Dont look away. And dont blink. Its a gift that a veteran series like Doctor Who was willing to make such daring choices as it did with Blink. By moving both the Doctor and his stalwart companion Martha into cameo appearances, and instead focusing on the twists and turns of the plot, the series reminded viewers why it ranks as not only one of the best sci-fi series ever, but one of the best television shows of all time, period. Then relative newcomer Carey Mulligan plays Sally Sparrow, a young woman who is inexplicably receiving messages from the past warning her of something called the Weeping Angels, imploring her that she must stop the threat they pose. These warnings appear as video recordings left by a mysterious man (the Doctor) stuck in 1969. It is up to Sally to piece together the clues coming from the past before a certain fake police box falls into the hands of the Angels. What follows is one of the most clever time-travel stories ever seen on the small screen. Blink pulls in everything from the timely delivery of mail from the early 20th century to the present (now THAT'S science fiction), finding what keyhole a certain key fits, and whether or not the concept of post hoc ergo propter hoc (its Latin, look it up) can ever be true when dealing with time travel. This episode is a gem. And youll never watch DVD Easter eggs the same way again.
