6. Ponies
In Susanna Fogel and David Iserson's comedy-thriller Ponies, you're getting what appears to be a relatively straightforward affair: after the mysterious deaths of their secret agent husbands, two widows join the CIA so they can spy on the Soviets.
Thanks in large part to the light-footed and hilarious chemistry of stars Haley Lu Richardson and Emilia Clarke, though, Ponies quickly proves to be more than meets the eye.
Taking a tried-and-tested story and injecting it with heaps of comedy and even a dash or two of romance, the series offers up so many surprises, chief amongst them an espionage thrill ride that genuinely shocks and delights, and a central friendship so amusing it becomes impossible not to root for them.
With a rollicking '70s soundtrack binding it all together, Ponies may not be high art or prestige drama, but it is bags of fun. And sometimes - just sometimes - that's more than enough.
