13. Altamid – Star Trek Beyond

The planet at the heart of Star Trek Beyond went through numerous conceptual changes before the final outdoor locations in Vancouver, British Columbia were chosen to represent Altamid.

According to screenwriter Doug Jung, the producers' initial ideas for Altamid were "loftier", including variable gravity, floating boulders, massive sinkholes, and pockmarked subterranean caverns.

Oddly enough, the planet in Rhianna's Star Trek Beyond music video "Sledgehammer" actually better reflects the early visualizations of Altamid than the CGI-enhanced practical locations that appear in the final film.
