One of the few, brief, fleeting glimmers of hope in the show so far was the arrival of an adorable one-eyed dog. Apparently Norman Reedus has been lobbying for Daryl Dixon to get a canine companion for a long time, but it wasn't until season four's Alone that he sort of got his wish. The dog set off Daryl's noise alarms in the fully-stocked safe house he and Beth had holed up in. Daryl wasn't so enamoured with the pooch, and it might have ended up being a diversionary tactic so Beth could get kidnapped, but the dog's real-life background is even cooler than being a dog that survives a zombie apocalypse. The true-life story behind Dooley the dog losing his eye? It's whilst he was saving his owner from a carjacking. The only character more badass than Daryl.
