12. Detectives Papania And Gilbough Couldve Made For A The Wire Reunion
Doing some quietly solid supporting work throughout the show despite relatively minimal roles, Tory Kittles and Michael Potts are two of the most sorely underrated cast members of True Detective season one. Yet their characters, Detective Papania and Detective Gilbough, the two officers conducting interviews with Hart and Cohle in 2012, were almost played by a different duo. All right, so not completely different; Potts was always going to play Gilbough, but the actor originally cast as Papania was Wood Harris, none other than Avon Barksdale, making his team-up with Potts some of a The Wire reunion (Potts played Brother Mouzone in the show). It wouldve brought the total The Wire cast members in True Detective to four, with Paul Ben-Victor and Clarke Peters also along for the ride.
