Precarious though the landscape of TV might be right now, with networks scrambling to figure out what value means in the age of streaming, audiences have still never had a more overwhelming platter of quality shows at their fingertips.
There are more incredible drama, comedy, and documentary shows releasing every week than anyone can feasibly keep up with, ensuring viewers need to be choosy about what they invest their time in. An embarrassment of riches indeed.
And so with that mind, we come to the 20 TV shows you absolutely, positively need to keep your eye on throughout 2024.
Over the next 12 months, these are the series that seem primed to deliver on the hype, please fans, and perhaps even dominate at the Emmys.
From long-awaited spin-offs of incredible movies, to years-gestating new seasons of hit TV shows, and a Netflix adaptation the entire world is rooting for, these are unquestionably the most-hyped and anticipated shows of 2024.
There's always room for a surprise or two of course, and there's no guarantee these shows will all hit their marks, but if you were betting on it, they're absolutely where you'd put your money...
20. The Penguin
Showrunner Lauren LeFranc (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) produces this long-awaited spin-off from Matt Reeves' The Batman film, centered of course around Reeves' iteration of Oswald Cobblepot, played near-unrecognisably under a pile of makeup by the great Colin Farrell.
The eight-episode series will take place during the week following the movie, as The Penguin ascends the ranks of Gotham City's criminal underworld following the demise of Carmine Falcone (John Turturro).
Farrell will be joined by Cristin Milioti as his rival Sofia Falcone, Clancy Brown (who voiced Lex Luthor in the DC Animated Universe) as mob boss Salvatore Maroni, and a wider ensemble cast including Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Theo Rossi, and Carmen Ejogo.
Given that Farrell's Cobblepot was a regular scene-stealer in The Batman, it's incredibly easy to be excited about this.
The Penguin releases in late 2024.
