One of the most critically-acclaimed British dramas of the decade, Peaky Blinders centres on Thomas Shelby and his gang (named for their caps, which have razor blades sewn into the peaks) in Birmingham, just after the First World War.

Written by Steven Knight and starring Cillian Murphy, it's a dark, intelligent gangster drama in the vein of HBO's Boardwalk Empire, and has increasingly fused itself with historical events and characters. Series 4 is expected later this year, with a 5th already confirmed too, so now's a good time to get caught up.
