20 Upcoming TV Shows Which Just Got Cancelled

These shows won't be coming back for more, sadly.

The world of TV seems to be more precarious than ever before, with networks still scrambling to figure out what success and failure mean in the age of streaming.

So, it's become increasingly tough to predict which shows will run for nine seasons and which will get scrapped after just a single one - if they even make it to air at all.

The reason for a show being renewed or cancelled can be fickle and unexpected, ultimately having little to do with its quality and even its viewership. And just recently, the following 20 shows were all confirmed to be cancelled, from hugely successful tentpole series most assumed would be renewed to dubious prospects that were announced years ago and ultimately never went before cameras.

Whatever the reason, these shows have all been given the chop, many of them long before they had the chance to realise their full potential, naturally leaving scores of fans frustrated in the process.

And so it just goes to show, even the "safest" of shows aren't beyond being canned for arcane business reasons.

20. Spider-Noir

Spider-Noir released to rave reviews back in May, posted solid ratings for Amazon out of the gate, and also received 11 Emmy nominations - the most of any Prime Video series this year.

However, in September the streamer announced that the Nicolas Cage-starring superhero series wouldn't be returning for a second season, likely a result of how quickly the show exited Prime Video's Top 10, combined with the high costs of production.

Many disappointed fans chose to blame Amazon for the decision to drop the entire eight-episode season at once, rather than opt for a weekly release model which tends to foster deeper ongoing discussion among audiences.

At least the show didn't leave many urgently dangling threads, and Cage certainly took the cancellation on the chin, saying, "One season is perfect."

Despite all this, Amazon and Sony are continuing to develop other Marvel-related TV properties as part of their multi-title deal.
