5. Cheers

Series Debut: 1982 "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" (the theme from Cheers) likely needs no introduction to anyone alive and of the right age in the 80s or 90s. Written by Gary Portnoy and Judy Hart Angelo, and performed by Portnoy, who had written tunes for Air Supply and Dolly Parton prior to composing the Cheers theme, it's another theme song that eventually broke onto the charts. The song picked up an Emmy nod in 1983 and was voted the best TV theme song of all time by Rolling Stone in 2011. TV Guide gave it the same accolades in 2013. The show itself was voted the best TV comedy of all time in a 2013 GQ magazine online poll.
