22. The Ford Twist - Westworld

The season finale's big twist was one few fans saw coming, that Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) wasn't in fact quite who we thought he was, and had actually spent more than three decades fostering the hosts' hatred against humans in order for them to "unlock the maze" and become stronger than human beings.

This of course leads to Dr. Ford being executed by Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) at the end of the episode, exactly as he intended and as a "suicide note" of sorts.

Fans have been unpacking the string of increasingly WTF revelations in Westword's first season, but few were quite as startling as the idea that Ford wasn't such a cruel God figure after all.
