I really really really need to get around to watching this classic TV series because it really seems right up my street ( I've seen the movie but unfortunately that is mostly it- and I am aware the two are not the same). Regardless, I am aware of this theme and boy is it a creepy one (though not quite the creepiest to feature on this list). Like many theme tunes on this list, the first 5 or so seconds really have such a powerful impact... and this tune in particular is most famous for its first 5 seconds- much like Seinfeld. The rest of the theme tune isn't so great, except for a very cool plucky string section about 30 seconds in. Still, this theme alone is enough to make me regret not being old enough to have witnessed this groundbreaking show in its original run.
17. Spider-Man
This is a great example of why the past did theme tunes so much better than the present. If this had been a TV show from recent years, it would have likely opted for dramatic, moody music with not lyrics what-so-ever, and not the super camp but super cool theme tune of this show. Like may others, I unfortunately wasn't really old enough to enjoy this classic cartoon in it's original run, though I have seen a few episodes since. This tune is so iconic and many people associate it so much with the Spider-Man brand that Sam Raimi (director of the original Spider-Man films) had a female busker sing a slightly quirkier version of this very tune in his very excellent Spider-Man 2 movie (one of my favorite films). Still, as great as this theme is, there is one other super-hero classic theme which places much higher.
