As DC rapidly attempts to claw back TV and film ground lost to rivals Marvel, "Supergirl" will provide the lead character in their latest superhero series. Introduced into the comics as a female counterpart to "Superman" in the 1950s (and his biological cousin), Supergirl is expected to deviate from the original storyline - with Melissa Benoist starring in the lead role. Supergirl - AKA Kara Zor-El/Kara Danvers - was taken in by the Danvers family at the age of 14 but has hidden her Kryptonian superpowers for a decade - before finally having to learn to embrace them. The series, to debut on CBS later in 2015, will see Supergirl discover how to use her powers during a disaster - before continuing to embrace her superpowers in the remainder of the episodes. The Selling Point: It's another superhero series, which always go well, so that'll get people tuning in. Plus it's Supergirl, many a man's fantasy woman. And she is played by Melissa Benoist, who isn't exactly lacking in the looks department. The Concerns: Is it all style over substance? Will it just be based on the fact that Supergirl is extremely good-looking - or will it actually try and go further and really create a proper comic-book-inspired, in-depth storyline?
