Game Of Thrones Role - Marillion

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Role - Taslin Brance

In what would appear to be an extraordinary coincidence if true, George R.R. Martin has often claimed that Marillion, the singer featured within his series of novels, is not named after the British rock band of the same name, best known for their 1985 single Kayleigh.

Scottish actor Emun Elliott took up the mantle of the annoying minstrel in Game of Thrones' first season, accompanying Catelyn Stark as she takes Tyrion Lannister to the Eyrie before later having his tongue cut out on the orders of King Joffrey in King's Landing.

The latter did not befall his book equivalent, who nevertheless suffered an uneviable fate as he remained in the Eyrie and was framed for the murder of Lysa Arryn by Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish, getting tortured and presumably killed following a forced confession.

Elliott took on a more heroic role within The Force Awakens, starring as resistance member Taslin Brance, whose involvement in proceedings included receiving news of the Battle of Jakku, getting admonished by Princess Leia for speculating Poe Dameron's death aloud in said battle and later reporting on the destruction of Hosnian Prime.

Should J.J. Abrams' successors Rian Johnson and Colin Treverrow wish to maintain continuity in their ranks, he may well reappear in later episodes of the saga. Given the sheer volume of supporting Resistance characters (played by the likes of Greg Grunberg and Ken Leung), however, it's not a certainty.
