5 Great TV Characters Who Had Absurdly Harrowing Endings
3. Jack Shephard - Lost

Dr. Jack Shephard was the protagonist of Lost and the leader of the survivors, of course that means his life was an absolute living hell for the majority of the shows run. Whether it was the others, the smoke monster or Keamy- one problem after another would be thrown in his face, as he tries to keep the group safe and retain his own sanity in the meantime. It was the impossible job for a man that in truth had far too many issues to be leading anybody, but he didnt let it hold him back. Loss and tragedy only furthered his desire to succeed - his desire to get the survivors off of the island- and he did twice. In the opinion of many, Jacks ending was pretty much the only thing that was right about the Lost finale. He sacrificed himself so that his group could escape the island; it was a noble act fitting of his position as the leader. Yet personally, I found the death of Jack to be the thing that bothered me the most about the shows conclusion. He had already gotten off of the island in the fourth season finale, he had thrown away his chance of happiness with Kate to come back, because he knew that was what needed to be done. In my opinion he had sacrificed enough and deserved a happier ending. Regardless of what you think about Jacks fate, I think most can agree that the guy got a raw deal.
