5 HUGE Plot Holes You Didn't Notice In Crisis On Infinite Earths
5. We Need To Talk About Laurel
Arrow's eighth season was the one that finally gave the Laurel Lance character the attention that she deserved, as the former villain was forced to watch as a wave of antimatter ripped Earth-2 apart. With her home destroyed and nowhere to go, she decided to complete her redemptive arc on Earth-1 by joining Oliver's quest to save the multiverse and ultimately stop what happened on Earth-2 from happening anywhere else.
With that in mind, fans were eagerly anticipating what kind of role she would play in Crisis itself, so you can imagine their disappointment when she didn't feature - like, at all. Sure, Katie Cassidy appeared in a flashback to Earth-1 Laurel, but there wasn't a sign of Earth-2's Black Canary. Not only was this a major disappointment, it just didn't make sense.
Now, Marc Guggenheim has since revealed that Laurel's absence was down to the fact that crossovers mean having to pay actors extra - and as Cassidy's notability undoubtedly makes her one of the more expensive actresses on The CW (note the 'With' and 'Special Appearance By' credits she's had over the years), she wasn't used in any episode other than the Arrow one.
An understandable side effect of the television business perhaps, but there were so many insignificant characters that weren't relevant to the plot who could have easily been cut from the crossover - Laurel wasn't one of them due to how prominent the Crisis was in her arc. And by having Sara refer to the original Laurel on multiple occasions - and literally nobody ask where Earth-2 Laurel was - the writers continually drew attention to her nonsensical absence.
