5 Most Cable-Like Shows On Network TV

3. Modern Family

Creator: Christopher Lloyd & Steven Levitan Network: ABC Honestly, this show does just fine where it is now; I€™m just more surprised that there is a funny, honest, and high quality comedy on one of the €œbig four€. What works for Modern Family is the mockumentary style that€™s been adopted since the British Office (and of course the US counterpart, and Parks and Recreation). It provides the audience a personal route into each character€™s psyche. It€™s not that Modern Family would be better if it was on FX or Showtime, it doesn't need language or more sex, but when you take a trip around network comedies there isn't anything really like it. There are some cheesecake moments like when Jay Prichett, grandfather patriarch, will voice over a little heartwarming family spiel, but most of the time it works. It€™s almost like a live-action rendering of the old Simpsons€™ episodes. They always close on a note that just makes you feel good.
