5 Reasons We Should All Be Excited About Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

2. A Known Direction

One common criticism of modern television is the lack of payoff. No one wants to sit through eight seasons of something only to find out Bran Stark was crowned king, or worse promoted over Captain Kirk, and having a clear direction and concluding point is essential for allowing shows to maintain their focus season after season.

Star Trek: Strange New Words absolutely has a clear direction in the form of Captain Pike. We know where this character is going, as his crippling accident whilst training cadets on the USS Republic following his departure from the Enterprise was included in Star Trek: Discovery, and is entirely cemented in canon. It is safe to say the show will lean into the inevitability of this, and the known futures of characters like Spock may also drive the plot forwards.

Whilst the destination may be known, the route to get there is not. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has the freedom to do the unexpected, and to surprise and delight its audience.

Will the show eventually reach a predictable outcome? Of course, and the payoff will be all the better when it comes after seasons of twists and revelations we did not expect.
