5 Signs DC Is Secretly Developing A Superman TV Show

Tyler Hoechlin is quietly being crowned the Superman torchbearer in the wake of Cavill's departure.

Since the first look at Tyler Hoechlin’s opening scene in the 2016 Supergirl second season premiere, fans have overwhelmingly been positive about his classic yet modern take on The Man of Steel. It felt like a breath of fresh air after 15 years of the “Alien Outcast” Kal-El seen in the Tom Welling, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill versions.

Despite the warm audience reaction, the studio was quick to temper the exploding interest in a new Superman TV series. CW President Mark Pedowitcz applauded Hoechlin’s performance while confirming that a new series was not being planned nor even discussed.

While disappointing, it did make some sense at that time as a new Superman series might have stepped on the toes of a couple pairs of red boots belonging to Henry Cavill and Melissa Benoist, but ...things have changed.

If we look closely we see that the groundwork is slowly being laid for a new series. This December’s annual CW crossover was announced months ago as the launching pad for next year’s Batwoman series, but it might also be a secret “back door” pilot for Superman.

5. Henry Cavill Is Trapped In The Phantom Zone

There are no current plans for the DCEU film version played by Henry Cavill to appear again. His representatives have expressed his interest in returning, but WB’s official response adhered to CIA level vagueness neither confirming or denying anything. So for now he is sentenced to the same cinema Purgatory as Ben Affleck's Batman; unlikely to ever be seen again, but not allowed to officially retire.

The lengthy time frame for making films means with nothing in the works, even if WB did negotiate with Cavill, it will be at least several years before Superman flies into cinemas. That is too long to bench their flagship character.
