6 Ups & 0 Downs From Doctor Who Series 12 - Ascension Of The Cybermen
The Lone Cyberman, The Timeless Child, The Master, Gallifrey- It's all come to this.
Everything we've had loaded onto our plates throughout Series 12 has led to this. The first part of the two-part finale, Ascension of the Cybermen. The Doctor and co. have tracked the Lone Cyberman down to a devastated planet, home to only a handful of human survivors of the Cyber War. Events transpire, and we're left with a twist that makes this coming week excruciating to wait through.
This explosive first act had viewers on the edge of their seats throughout. With a trilogy of cliffhangers leaving us in pieces by the end of the episode, The Timeless Children has a huge number of positives to live up to. For the first time this series, we have 0 downs! So let's get right in with those Ups!
Ups...
6. The Title Sequence Transition
The latter few episodes of Series 12 were granted a pre-title scene, something that was, up to Series 11, a standard occurrence in NuWho. This week saw parts of various Cybermen floating in the void of space. The Lone Cyberman that we'd met in The Haunting of Villa Diodati narrates, only for a helmet to fly towards the camera, with the title sequence beginning in its eye.
It's nothing lore-related, or really anything major in the grand scheme of Doctor Who, but it's these little creative flares show how much the production team care about this show. On a similar topic, the CGI throughout this episode (and the series) has been the best it has ever been.
