As JFK proved, you cant beat a good bit of political rhetoric to get the juices flowing. Aaron Sorkin certainly took this on board when scripting President Bartlet. Be it addressing the public or his own staff, a speech was never too far away in any West Wing episode for good old Martin Sheen. The West Wing gave us some of the best fictional speeches of all time, leaving us wondering what would President Bartlet have said in reaction to 9/11, to 7/7 and to the recent killings in Norway? Its difficult to truly convey the power of rhetoric through text, so Ill let Martin Sheen do it for me. This is arguably some of the best writing in The West Wing, and perhaps of any TV series past, present or future.
