7 Times The Arrowverse Missed The Mark
7. Cicada
With Season Five of The Flash being all about legacy, Barry and Iris’ daughter Nora came from the future to visit her dad and spend some time with him. The show took an amazing opportunity to see a young Barry be a vital mentor to someone that looked up to him so much.
In the latter part of the season, it was revealed that Nora was being used by Eobard Thawne, with this detail creating a rift between Barry and his daughter. Flash’s nemesis had committed the ultimate crime - he'd stolen Barry’s legacy!
This made for a great storyline at the end of the season, but it was a real shame that for the first half of Season Five we had to deal with a villain in Cicada who was so bland that he was replaced by his own daughter. Actor Chris Klein was obviously doing the best he could with what he was given, but it really felt like the writers had no idea what to do with this character.
Cicada's metahuman manhunt was interesting to watch and could have led to Barry on a mission to keep his team safe from a senseless murder. Instead, we ditched the character altogether to focus on Reverse-Flash, which is something that could have just been done from the get-go.
