4. Good Things Won't Happen Because You Wish Them To

One of the things that distinguished Friends was that whenever a character wanted something, in a couple of episodes they get it. Or in Phoebe's case, they got it immediately. Granted it was just to keep the series going and to add a couple more of plot points to make it longer, but most of the times they were poorly executed. Although to be fair that's something that happens in every sitcom, so I'll try to be nice with this one. When you watch a series like Friends, which tries to make the viewer empathize with the characters of the series and to feel what they feel it's important to give the reason for the audience to relate themselves with the characters. But this wasn't well executed by the writers because many things felt quite forced at times. Phoebe's pregnancy, her subsequent encounter with her mother and father, Chandler and Monica's marriage and adoption, Ross' relationships. There is a moment in everyone's life in which you realize that it won't matter how much you wish it, some things won't happen. And that's an important part of life, to understand that you have to cope with loss and sad moments in your life.
