8. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

While Demon Slayer might sound like your run-of-the-mill shonen adventure, don't let the name fool you as this show has a lot more heart and emotion than most of the action based shows currently running.

Our protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado, starts the show as a well-mannered kid who helps his family by selling charcoal to people in other villages. However, one day he returns home to find that most of his family have been killed by demons. While his sister is still alive, she suffers a far worse fate as she's turned into a demon herself.

With most of his family dead and his sister literally chomping at the bit for some human flesh, Tanjiro decides to become a demon slayer. Sounds pretty par for the course with most revenge focused animes. However, Tanjiro's motives feel like they're less about revenge about more about doing his best to return his life back to some semblance of normalcy.

The art is exactly what you'd expect from a top studio like Ufotable, as they do a fantastic job of showing the various emotions Tanjiro goes through during the series. If this story was given to another studio, they might not have been able to capture Tanjiro's character quite as well as Ufotable have.

While Demon Slayer might not get the plaudits that other shows are currently getting, it still gives a rather predictable genre a much needed breath of fresh air.
