They have lived among the heroes of Marvel Comics for some time, always peering through the cracks, waiting for their moment in the spotlight. It seems that spotlight has now arrived, in the form of a live action TV show based on the most famous members of their race, The Inhuman Royal Family. The family has had its share of disputes.

Ultimately most stories are about Inhumans' ability to protect their own at any cost, while also trying to maintain their kingdom. Now more than ever, the Inhuman race has been integrated into most things Marvel. They have crossed paths with the likes of the Fantastic Four, Avengers, and X-Men, and yet most don't know much about this seemingly "new" cast of characters. It's time we take a long look at Marvel Royalty and take a deep dive in all things Inhuman.

8. The Team Is Older Than You Know

When you think of some of Marvel's earliest creations, certain names instantly come to mind. Characters like the X-Men, Spider-Man, and the Incredible Hulk are considered household names since coming into existence in the 1960's.

What most don't know is shortly after the creation of "Marvel's First Family" The Fantastic Four in 1961, came the creation of "Marvel's First Royal Family" The Inhumans in 1968. In Fantastic Four #45, members of the Inhuman Royal Family including King Black Bolt, Triton, Crystal, and their protector, Lockjaw, the telepathic bulldog, made their comic book debut. Other members, like Medusa and Gorgon, made their appearances a few issues before the whole family did.

They were brought to life by Marvel Comics legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, who are credited with the creation of most of Marvel’s early work. The Inhumans made their presence known years before other teams like The Guardians of the Galaxy (1969), or The Watchmen (1968) did.

This makes The Inhumans some of Marvel's oldest characters, as the team is almost 50 years old. It kind of makes you wonder why it took so long for the Royalty Family to debut in live-action, but better late than never.
