It's also something that is impossible, at least with our understanding of physics. What inertial dampers do is actually inertial negation: negating inertia and its effects. You cannot negate inertia anymore than you can drive your Maserati at light speed. As you'll read later on in this article, the Enterprise, and by extension science, already have an answer to the effects of inertia. Actually it has two answers. The first answer is their artificial gravity. Let's take a look at the hunk of rock we call home and apply it to this scenario. A single rotation of the Earth travels at 1000 miles per hour, taking into account the size of the planet is 24,000 miles in circumference and there are 24 hours in a day. Gravity keeps us from flying off the planet and becoming street pizza. The second answer is Warp speed. Warp is not actually acceleration, vis a vis going from 0 to Mach 2 with a combustion engine. Since you're basically in subspace and not accelerating, you won't be hit with G-forces turning you into chunky salsa.
