9 Upcoming Original Amazon TV Shows You Should Be Excited About

By James Hunt /

7. The New Yorker Presents

The New Yorker doesn't need much of an introduction, being one of the most historic and acclaimed magazines in US history, but now they are bringing that to life on the TV (or computer/tablet) screen. The New Yorker Presents will be a half-hour show containing much of the same sort of content you'd get in the magazine, only in a much more visual, live-action way. The pilot episode was produced by Alex Gibney, the Oscar winning documentary maker, and featured a variety of segments, including a documentary from fellow Oscar winner Jonathan Demme, based on Rachel Aviv's article A Very Valuable Reputation; writer Ariel Levy interviewing artist Marina Abramovic; a sketch from Simon Rich and Alan Cumming; cartoons by Emily Flake; and poetry read by Andrew Garfield. There is going to be a full season of the show, which means you can expect a whole lot more of that sort of content mentioned, as they successfully bring the artistic, informative, and witty elements from the print version over to the television series. It'll be just like reading The New Yorker, without having to actually bother reading The New Yorker.
