AMC Release Breaking Bad 'Ozymandias' Trailer

With the premiere of the final eight episodes of Breaking Bad airing in the United States on August 11th, AMC have released a haunting and eerie trailer featuring the series€™ anti-hero Walter White (played by Bryan Cranston). The minute long trailer consists of Cranston providing a voice-over of Percy Bysshe Shelley's sonnet Ozymandias:

I met a traveller from an antique landWho said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stoneStand in the desart. Near them, on the sand,Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,Tell that its sculptor well those passions readWhich yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:And on the pedestal these words appear:"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"Nothing beside remains. Round the decayOf that colossal wreck, boundless and bareThe lone and level sands stretch far away.
What significance does Ozymandias have for Walter White? Shelley€™s sonnet speaks of a traveller who tells the story of a great ancient king who is encapsulated in a statue that is now crumbling and decayed. A king who was once so mighty over his native land is now broken and alone in the desert, surrounded by nothingness. Could this be a metaphor for Walter White€™s fate in the series€™ final episodes, with his drug empire finally falling? It has been eleven long months since audiences were left on the mid-series five cliff-hanger, craving for the final episodes of the hit US show. The latest trailer from AMC and the show's creator Vince Gilligan will no doubt have its audience salivating for the next episode as a result of the trailer€™s ambiguity and abstract imagery. Gilligan has promised that his finale will be 'conclusive,' tying up any loose ends,
'I think what we€™ve accomplished is a satisfying ending. There€™s probably some happiness and some sadness going hand in hand. Suffice it to say, it€™s not going to be all peaches and cream.'
Breaking Bad returns to our screens on August 11th, airing at 9/8c in the US. It'll be available to the UK audience on Netflix on August 12th.
