One of the many reasons to be excited about the series comes from the people bringing it to the screen: Bryan Fuller and Michael Green.

Of the two, Fuller is the more established name, having served as showrunner on a number of beloved cult series, including Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies and Hannibal. Although they invariably always get cancelled too soon, he does have a knack for world-building and serialised storytelling. We've seen the vibrant colours of Pushing Daisies and the ghoulish sets of Hannibal, and he should bring something really eye-catching to American Gods, along with his talent for telling fantastical stories. Hopefully he leaves the bad luck with cancellation behind though.

Michael Green, meanwhile, has a more mixed TV CV, with credits ranging from Sex and the City to Heroes to Gotham, but he's also written four of this year's biggest movies: Logan (which we already know was brilliant), Alien: Covenant, Blade Runner 2049, and Murder on the Orient Express. That is pretty ridiculous, and suggests some serious sci-fi talent, which bodes well for American Gods, especially when combined with Fuller's visual flair.

David Slade, meanwhile, who worked on a number of Hannibal episodes, will be directing at least the pilot, which is titled The Bone Orchard.
