American Gods Cast Gets Even Better, Adds Gillian Anderson
She'll play Media.
Gillian Anderson is the latest big name to be confirmed for Starz's adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods, which should boast one of the most impressive casts on TV when it finally arrives on our screens next year.
As reported by Variety, The X-Files star will play Media, one of the new Gods involved in the battle that is coming between them and the old Gods. Media serves as the face of the new Gods, their spokesperson. As well as Anderson's character, the new Gods are represented by the likes of Celebrity and Technology, while the old Gods are more rooted in mythology.
It'll serve as a reunion for Anderson with showrunner Bryan Fuller, whom she worked with on Hannibal. It also sees her joining a growing cast that currently includes Ricky Whittle (The 100) as main protagonist Shadow Moon, Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) as his wife Laura, Ian McShane (Deadwood) as the enigmatic Mr Wednesday, and Crispin Glover (Back To The Future) as Mr World.
The show revolves around Shadow, who after his release from prison starts working for conman Mr Wednesday, and becomes embroiled in the brewing war between the Gods. The series is probably the upcoming TV show I'm most excited for at the moment, given how great Gaiman's novel is, and the 10-episode first season is currently shooting in Toronto, with further locations expected to be added across America.
