16. Marshall Applewhite

While Peters' primary role throughout the Cult season of American Horror Story was that of Kai Anderson, he also portrayed a number of other characters during ninth episode Drink The Kool-Aid, when crazed Kai relays stories about real-life cult leaders to his devoted followers.

The first of these is Heaven's Gate leader Marshall Applewhite. Due to the excellent make-up and prosthetics utilised to re-create Applewhite's facial features, Peters is unrecognisable during the scene in question, turning in a great performance as the notorious leader.

While all of the actor's performances in the aforementioned episode are incredibly brief, Applewhite's is the shortest of them, which unfortunately means it's unable to rate higher on this list. Had there been more material, however, this could well have been a different story.
