It's just going to be one of those days, and the second honorable mention on the list goes to a show which no doubt redefined 90's situation comedy. You might never have been a fan, and wished somebody somewhere would stop repeating episodes, but Friends is something you can't have ignored. The only unfortunate thing is that The Rembrandts' own career hasn't been as successful. "I'll Be There for You" was co-written by Friends producers David Crane and Marta Kauffman, Kauffman's husband, composer Michael Skloff, and songwriter Allee Willis, along with Phil Slem and Danny Wilde, both of the Rembrandts. It was originally offered to REM (partly due to the fact that their track 'Shiny Happy People' was once considered the forerunner for the theme to the show) and the song is very much a typical Beatlesesque pop song. The first version of the song was only a minute long, but based on it's initial success was re-recorded into the three minute version that also found itself a music video featuring members of the cast. It was this version that also featured on the Rembrandt's third studio album simply entitled LP in 1995. Of course not everyone was a super fan of the song AOL Radio recently ranking it as one of the Top 25 in it's '100 Worst Songs Ever Written' as it plagues music lovers everywhere that repeats of Friends threaten the landscape. Since Comedy Central recently paid a rather large amount of money to show people what they've already seen on a regular basis for the next decade I think it's safe to say that anyone not too familiar with 'The One Where...' is advised to keep well clear.
