Rumours began circulating early last year that the actress was set to appear in the film adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey, after a picture posted to Instagram by author E.L. James featured Cassidy with the caption Katie CassidyIsnt she flexible? Many assumed this meant that shed be in the movie, albeit not as the lead as that had already gone to Dakota Johnson, however the rumours either ultimately didnt come to pass, or she didnt get the part. However, long before that even there was talk of her appearing in the film, which Cassidy herself commented on:
Im flattered that people have been talking about me for the role of Ana in Fifty Shades Of Grey. Ive read the book, its great and it would be unbelievable to play her even if it is a little risqué. I believe theyre in the process of writing a script for it and Id love to be given the opportunity to take on a character like that. I dont think the film would offend as many people as maybe the book has.
While it wouldve been a pretty big role for her, its probably safe to say it was something of a lucky escape that she didnt end up in the movie, and shes much better kicking-ass as Black Canary in Arrow than being submissive to Christian Grey in 50 Shades.
