Arrow: Ranking Every Version Of The Black Canary From Worst To Best

Many Canaries have Cried on Arrow, but which one stands tall?

There is no Green Arrow without Black Canary. One of comic books most iconic couples, the duo have been fighting crime side-by-side for years, so when The CW announced plans to make a TV show centered on the Emerald Archer, it was only a matter of time until his super-powered soulmate joined him on-screen.

To say that Arrow has had an interesting history with the Black Canary would be an understatement. Originally introducing a prototype version in The Canary to further the arc of the real Black Canary, it would get so much right and so much wrong along the way, as the writers bafflingly decided to focus on uninteresting original characters to the detriment of the show.

One thing led to another and, somehow, they thought it would be a great idea to - kid you not - introduce multiple versions of Black Canary on a show that only ever needed the one introduced in the pilot. And now, here we stand with the end of Arrow in sight, and six Black Canaries to look back on. With that in mind, why not throw caution to the wind and rank them all from worst to best?

6. Evelyn Sharp

Evelyn Sharp may have grown into one of the more intriguing and subsequently infuriating characters in Arrow's fifth season, but her arrival in the fourth was nothing short of ridiculous.

After having killed off the actual Black Canary, the writers introduced Evelyn as a thief in the following episode who stole Laurel's Canary Cry collar and attempted to make use of the mantle for her own gain. A contrived nonsensical plot in a bid to force Quentin to believe that his daughter was still alive, it saw the poor imitation nearly end up making a mockery out of the Black Canary's legacy - but we didn't need her to do that because, at this point, Arrow already had.

Insensitive, infuriating and completely unnecessary, 'Canary Cry' was an example of Arrow at its creative worst and it's downright baffling that the writers expected us to even care about Evelyn after killing off the actual Black Canary.
