Arrow Season 4: 11 Big Questions We're Asking After 'Genesis'
The Dark Side...and the Light.
Arrow has flirted with fully embracing the ridiculous side of its nature before, and indeed did so a couple of weeks ago with Beacon of Hope. With Genesis, the show is once again erring close to full-on craziness, except the difference here is that it also tries to stick true to what Arrow was: a dark superhero show.
It's a difficult balance to strike, and one Arrow doesn't always pull off, but it does a solid job of it here. The show is approaching its Season 4 endgame, and is using both the darkness and the madness to propel it forward. This is an episode that involves a shaman, a mysterious dome, and the soul-sucking Damien Darhk, but it's also one completely grounded by John Diggle, with David Ramsey continuing the great work that Laurel's death seems to have afforded him the space to do (that it took a major death to get Diggle to this point is a rather different matter).
There are a couple of small victories for Team Arrow this week, but they pale in comparison to the potential losses, with Thea trapped and Darhk getting access to nuclear weapons. We've now got only three episodes left, and have a lot of questions that we need answered.
11. How Will Killing Andy Impact Diggle?
As mentioned in the intro, David Ramsey is really putting in some great work as John Diggle recently (or rather, he's getting some meatier storylines to go with his always strong acting), and that's never been more evident than this week, which sees him finally have to kill his brother.
It's obviously a hard, horrible moment for the character, and one that's going to have some big repercussions for him going forward. He's already been struggling with his role in Laurel's death, and that guilt and self-blame is going to get worse now that he's shot his own blood. How will Diggle be able to move on from this, and how will it alter his actions in the future?
I was also tempted to ask whether or not Andy was really dead, because this is Arrow after all, and he's closely aligned with Darhk, but surely they wouldn't bring him back?
