In a season full of flashbacks with Oliver learning about magic back on Lian Yu, few people likely expected the flashbacks to take such a radically different form this week. Seeing Chay-Ara, Khufu and Savage in Ancient Egypt was a cool detour, but it was extremely out of place for Arrow and it already feels as if they need to return to the standard flashback format. But its been a while since the younger Oliver was seen and, with so much going on in the present, its almost hard to remember what he was up to. To recap, Oliver seems to be gaining Reiters trust after he performed some sort of magical test to determine that he was telling the truth. Furthermore, Oliver now has a plan of action: acquire a survey map as a means to find what Reiter is searching for. When we pick back up, will things have progressed further? Could Oliver be in a higher position of command, or even ready to steal the map? Or maybe itll pick up exactly where it left off, theres only one way to get answers and thats a return to the flashbacks.
