Downs...

5. It's A Little Flat At The Beginning

The CW

Back when Batwoman's pilot episode first hit screens, this writer referred to it as a 'triumph' because it was so much better than the trailer ever gave it credit for. And it's true, because the first few episodes started it off in a way that set it up for success.

What this writer didn't expect, however, was for the show to improve so much in such a short space of time that it would ultimately leave its debut in the dust.

Yes, Batwoman's beginnings pale in comparison to the adventures that follow because it tries the familiar Arrowverse tropes without ever matching the standard of Arrow, The Flash or Supergirl's pilot episodes. It's not that it's slow or anything... it's just that it rushes through the predictable beats without offering much of substance in between. Once it drops its attempts to recreate that predictable format, however, it truly comes to life.
