Breaking Bad: 16 Examples Of Obnoxious Behaviour That Didn’t Involve Murder Or Cooking Meth

9. Skyler Needs You To Obey

One of Skyler's most obnoxious traits was her favored verbal manipulative tactic in which she prefaced a command with "I need you to...". This is a classic illustration of her ball-busting sense of superiority. Police officers - genuine authority figures - will often say, "Sir, I need you to step out of the car" and NOT satisfying the officer's "needs" can lead to a spot of trouble, to say the least. When Skyler uses "I need you to..." it is said with a tone of dominance and the subtext that refusal is not an option. When she didn't get her way, she would find more dramatic and drastic ways to "win." Like pretending to drown herself. Since she used "I need you to..." a lot, it was always a joy when someone cut her off and refused to acknowledge her self-perceived authority. One memorable moment was at the end of Season 3 after Walt blew up Gus Fring. Walt calls the house and Skyler steps away from the crowd to find out just what the hell happened. "Was this you?" she begins. Walt doesn't answer and she then hits him with, "I need you to..." with that tone of "you better answer me, young man" some of our more terrifying childhood teachers used to use on occasion. Walt cuts her off, tells her it's over, and then hits her with "I won." A classic Heisenberg moment that outflanked one of Skyler's tried-and-true domination tactics.
