All of these moments are centred around the characters who made the show as popular as it was. Watching each member of the gang face adversity and all-powerful villains was always a blast, but seeing them conquer such evil and risk everything in order to save the world always made it even better.

At its core, the characters and their selflessness was the heartbeat of the show, making the themes of good versus evil seem all the more fresh, powerful and unique.

The following list will focus on such developments, from the timeless monologues, the soul-crushing sacrifices and the moments of pure heart that the show bred so well.

Here are the ten most uplifting moments to ever occur on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

10. Buffy Stands Up To Angelus - Season 2, Episode 22

After half a season being emotionally scarred by her ex-boyfriend, no longer the man he once was, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) decided she'd had enough. With Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) kidnapped and tortured, Buffy launched a daring rescue mission to save him and stop Angelus (David Boreanaz) from enacting his evil plan.

As Xander (Nicholas Brendon) leaves with Giles, Buffy and Angelus engage in an epic, emotional fight complete with swords and the fate of the world hanging between them.

Near the fight's end, Buffy is disarmed and briefly overpowered. Angelus proceeds to mock her, asking her what she has now that she has no allies and no weapon, to which Buffy replies "Me" - and finds her second wind, pushing him back and finally finding the courage to kill him for his actions.

It's a powerful moment that is bound to get your heart racing, showing that although her friends are a key aspect of her life, she doesn't always need them to face down the evil that comes her way.
