Though it was originally expected to have a five-season run, hit mystery thriller series Yellowjackets was recently confirmed to be wrapping up after its upcoming fourth.

Even as recently as 2023, co-creator Ashley Lyle stated that the five-season plan was still in place, and with its third season ultimately being its most-watched to date, it's rather surprising that Paramount made the decision to tie things off a season early.

Even accepting the rather polarised fan response to the latest season in particular, viewing figures are king, and it's tough to parse Paramount killing a golden goose prematurely.

Some have suggested that the recent Paramount-Skydance merger might be to blame, with regime changes causing the premature cancellation for opaque bureaucratic reasons.

Either way, it appears that Lyle has been given a season's worth of runway to wrap things up, which is at least a better result than the show being canned after season four has already been shot.
