20 TV Shows That Were Cancelled In 2025

15. The Recruit

The Noah Centineo-starring spy series The Recruit made its debut in 2022 to mixed reviews but strong viewing figures, prompting Netflix to renew it within a mere matter of weeks.

However, production on season two was held up by industry strike action, meaning that it didn't release until January 2025, over two years after season one dropped.

And despite the consensus being that season two was a fair improvement, the viewership didn't reflect that, further unaided by the second season running for just six episodes compared to the first season's eight.

Releasing it a mere week after the second season of Netflix's phenomenally popular espionage series The Night Agent probably wasn't the smartest move either.

According to Deadline sources, The Recruit season two had a strong completion rate but simply failed to post the overall numbers Netflix needed in order to give a third season the greenlight.

Considering that Netflix gave it far less of a marketing push than The Night Agent, the outcome isn't super surprising.
