Community, an NBC/Yahoo! Screen sitcom that ran from 2009 until 2015, became a cult classic. It stands out for a number of reasons, including its constant homages to films and TV shows, its boundary-pushing episodes which transform Greendale Community College into a paintball arena or massive volcano, and its quirky cast of characters.

The series follows a group that becomes known as "The Greendale Seven" as they study at Greendale Community College, just about the worst place to get an education. As Jeff, Britta, Abed, Shirley, Annie, Troy, and Pierce spend more time at Greendale becoming closer with each other, they also become closer with the school itself, adapting and blending in with this larger than life location.

As bizarre as the show becomes in its later seasons, its newer characters might out-weird Greendale itself. Greendale allows for hilarious characters to shine and become fan favourites, especially when a few original cast members leave Community, clearing the way for a new cast to steal the show and make their mark.

Here are the ten best characters from Community who appear after Season 1.

10. Neil

Played by Charley Koontz, Neil was a Greendale student who would become responsible for one of the greatest episodes in Community history.

Unfortunately, Neil dealt with bullying his entire life, and though it seemed name-calling was just a part of his past after arriving at Greendale, Neil becomes depressed when the student body starts referring to him as "Fat Neil". Feeling guilty as the one who unintentionally started the nickname, Jeff organizes a game of Dungeons and Dragons, Neil's favourite game, so he and the study group could attempt to befriend Neil. Pierce, who is excluded from the invitation due to his insensitivity, hijacks the session, only to create a more satisfying ending when Neil's character defeats this villain.

The brilliance of Neil's character is not limited to his one episode in the spotlight. Throughout the rest of the series, Neil occasionally appears in the background, giving him a happy ending of sorts. He's doing quite well for himself, aside from a few yams he murdered - he's dating Vicky, he has a job DJing as "Real Neil with Pipes of Steel", and he has remained fairly close with the study group.

In his non-Advanced Dungeons and Dragons appearances, Neil reminds audiences of how far he has come that he is able to thrive at Greendale.
