Curb Your Enthusiasm: 10 Moments Where Larry David Was Right

By Lee Warner /

5. The Perfume Sampler €“ (S6 Ep 3)

The Context: Larry needs to buy a specific bottle of perfume for Marty Funkhouser after his mother€™s untimely death. The Issue: There were two incidents of €˜sample abusing€™ in the episode, but this one bothered me more. Larry and other customers wait in line at the perfume store to buy their items, but are held up by one woman who won€™t stop sampling every single fragrance in the shop. This causes Larry to lose out on the last bottle of the perfume he needed. Two details have worked against Larry in this instance, who is undoubtedly right to feel aggrieved. Firstly, there should be a saleswoman on the counter who deals ONLY with sampling and not selling the products. Secondly, the customer in question is blatantly abusing her sampling privileges, as Larry argues. You can€™t stand there all day holding other busy shoppers up, either buy it or try it on outside of the queue! €œYou can€™t sample everything in the world, we€™d all like to try everything.€ €“ Hear hear!
